Instagram bio for business: how to write 4 lines that sell
By Otávio Marques · · 4 min read

Your Instagram bio for business has one job: make someone who just landed on your profile understand, in five seconds, what you sell, whether you serve them and how to reach you. If they do not get that fast, they go back to the feed and never buy.
The short answer: write your bio in 4 lines, each with one purpose. What you do, who you serve and where, why they should trust you, and a call to contact you. Below I walk through each line, with templates you can adapt.
Why your Instagram bio for business decides the sale
A sale through Instagram almost always follows the same path: someone sees a post or a video of yours, gets curious and taps your name. At that moment they land on your profile, and the first thing they read is the bio.
That is where they decide to stay or leave. Not on your tenth post, not in your highlights. In the bio. A profile with thousands of followers and a confusing bio loses clients every day, while a small profile with the right bio gets messages.
The most common mistake is using the bio to talk about the company ("Passion for baking since 2015 ✨") instead of answering what the visitor wants to know. Passion answers nothing. "Custom birthday cakes, delivered downtown" answers everything.
The 4-line bio template
Line 1: what you do
Write the service or product the way your client says it, not the technical name. "Headlight restoration at your home" instead of "premium auto detailing". "Custom birthday cakes" instead of "artisan confectionery".
Line 2: who you serve and where
If you serve a city or a region, say so. It filters out people you cannot help and builds confidence for those you can. "Delivery across the north side", "In-home service, Miami area".
Line 3: why trust you
One concrete, short proof. Years of experience, number of clients served, a guarantee, something your competitor does not offer. "2,000+ cakes delivered", "1-year service guarantee". Only use numbers that are true.
Line 4: the call to action
Tell people exactly what to do now. "Get a quote on WhatsApp 👇" with the link right below. Without this line, many people like your profile and simply do nothing.
The name field: the detail that gets you found in search
There is one field almost everyone wastes: the name on your profile, the bold text above the bio. It is different from your @handle, and Instagram search reads it.
If the name says only "Ana's Sweets", you show up for people searching "Ana". If it says "Ana's Sweets | Custom Cakes", you start showing up when someone types "custom cakes" in search. Same logic as Google: write what your client types.

Instagram bio examples for local businesses
Adapt them to your case. Notice that all of them follow the same 4 jobs:
Barbershop
Men's haircuts and straight razor shaves Downtown, Monday to Saturday 5,000+ cuts last year Book on WhatsApp 👇
Electrician
Residential and commercial electrician Serving the whole metro area Free quotes, guaranteed work Message me on WhatsApp 👇
Car detailing
Headlight restoration in your driveway City and surrounding area Crystal-clear headlights in 2 hours Get a quote on WhatsApp 👇
Mistakes that make people leave your profile
- A bio that is only a slogan. "Turning dreams into reality" does not say what you sell.
- No location. People far away message you and waste your time, while people nearby do not know you serve them.
- A link that goes nowhere. A broken link, or a page with ten buttons, confuses people. One link, one destination: your chat.
- Too many emojis. One or two guide the eye. Ten become noise.
After the bio: highlights and a pre-filled chat link
The bio opens the door, but the highlights are what convince. The four you should never skip show what you do, proof (clients and results), how it works and frequently asked questions. And your WhatsApp link should open the chat with a ready message, like "Hi! I found you on Instagram and I would like a quote".
With your bio fixed, the next step is knowing what to post on Instagram for business so new people reach this profile every day. If you want to go deeper, the course walks you through the profile, the content and the sales conversation step by step (it is taught in Portuguese).
Frequently asked questions
How many characters fit in an Instagram bio?
The bio allows up to 150 characters. That is why the 4-line template works: each line has one job and nothing is wasted.
Can I put a WhatsApp link in my bio?
Yes, in the profile link field. Ideally use a link with a pre-filled message, so the chat already says where the person came from.
Do I need a business account for this?
A business or creator account helps, because it unlocks a category, contact buttons and insights. But the bio text works the same on any account type.
